Replicating hands-on dental training and community without a campus
The Kois Center wanted dentists anywhere in the world to get the same depth of training, practice and peer interaction as attending in person in Seattle - without requiring physical travel. That meant solving real-time multiplayer collaboration, hands-on procedure practice and assessment, all inside VR, for an audience that might be using VR for the first time.
Continuing education required physical travel to a single campus in Seattle
No way to practice real dental procedures hands-on without being physically present
Real-time multiplayer collaboration in VR meant solving networking, latency and synchronization from scratch
The platform had to be usable by dentists with no prior VR experience, without feeling overwhelming
A virtual replica of the real campus, built for training and community
We modeled the virtual campus directly on the Kois Center's real Seattle facility, then built it out with a lecture hall for pre-recorded and live sessions, interactive hands-on training modules for real dental procedures, a multiplayer community space, and a VR-based examination system - all designed to be approachable for first-time VR users.
Seattle campus replica
Lecture halls, classrooms and common areas modeled on the real Kois Center facility for instant familiarity.
Interactive hands-on training
Dentists practice real procedures in controlled, safe VR conditions that replicate real-world haptics and context.
Multiplayer community space
Dentists attend lectures together, collaborate and discuss cases in real time, in the same virtual space.
VR-based examination system
Teachers post multiple-choice and practical exams that students complete and get feedback on, entirely in VR.
How dental continuing education changed for Kois Center
Continuing education moved from a single physical campus to a global, VR-native platform without losing the hands-on and community elements that make dental training effective.
