Engaging a student community around a global event
The client wanted to use the 2022 World Cup as a vehicle to bring its student community together - across years, programmes and locations - through a shared experience tied to the brand.
Student community spread across multiple programmes and campuses
Generic social channels could not anchor the campaign experience
Real-time match results had to feed back into community standings
The platform had to launch and run reliably across the entire tournament
A predictions-and-community platform tied to live match data
We built a web platform where students could submit match predictions, track their score on personal and group leaderboards, and follow live tournament progression - all within an on-brand experience.
Match predictions
Students submit predictions for each match before kickoff, scored automatically against live results.
Personal & group leaderboards
Individual rankings plus group competitions across programmes and campuses.
Live result tracking
Match results feed back into scoring and standings in near real-time.
On-brand experience
Fully on-brand UI, tying the event campaign to the institution's identity.
How the student-engagement offering changed
The event reframed from a generic social moment into a branded community platform with live mechanics.
Engagement
Before
Scattered social posts
After
Branded community platform
One destination for the tournament instead of fragmented feeds.
Scoring
Before
Manual or generic prediction apps
After
Live result-driven leaderboards
Rankings update with the matches, not after them.
Brand identity
Before
Generic event channels
After
On-brand institutional experience
The tournament moment carries the institution's identity, not a vendor's.
Audience involvement
Before
Passive viewers
After
Active prediction + competition
Students participate instead of just watching.
Delivered for the 2022 World Cup window
